Let’s look back to 2019 and all of the hype around the Marie Kondo method, which is now trademarked. (The Saintgarde wardrobe fits in well, by the way!)
Google says that.. ‘The KonMari Method™ is a state of mind – and a way of life – that encourages cherishing the things that spark joy in one’s life.
Belongings are acknowledged for their service – and thanked before being let go, should they no longer spark joy.’
So, cutting out all of that jargon, the essence we believe of her method is to declutter your life and the spaces and places in your life where your time is mostly spent.
We think it is fitting to use this example when talking about our wardrobes too. The Saintgarde wardrobe is about less being more, spending money on only quality items that become the staple pieces in your wardrobe that you will wear and use every day, year in year out.
What core items of clothing start your essential Saintgarde wardrobe?
Classic pieces and styles like the white Tshirt are an essential wardrobe basic that will never go out of style because it’s not high or fast fashion is just a classic staple.
Yes, there are many types of white t-shirts, but once again a quality fabric that you can rewash time and time is a great investment. This is where the ‘spark joy’ of Marie Kondo comes into play for me. If you can look into that beautifully laid out wardrobe and the pieces of clothing are perfectly organised and uncluttered, you feel joy because your choices are well displayed right in front of you. Just think about how you feel when your house has been freshly cleaned. Your feel free, you feel happy, we would even say we feel lighter. It’s right to say then that having a clean, organised wardrobe will have you feeling the same way.
So my tip, sorry Marie Kondo I’m not stealing your idea! Is to get rid of all of it and if you can afford it, start fresh or keep hold of those quality, key investment pieces that most importantly fit well, and can be the first additions and inclusions in building your new staple essential Saintgarde wardrobe.
How can I stop myself from creating an over-cluttered wardrobe again?
Don’t forget how your old cluttered, closet used to make you feel and think about this every time you go to buy another item of clothing. All you want now are the staple, well-fitting basics that you can wear through the season, are timeless in look, colour and style.
Can you add seasonal colours and on-trend pieces to your staple wardrobe?
Fun colour and on-trend styles can be thrown in now and then, but make sure it’s a classic cut that is also figure flattering to your shape. It’s important that you can team this piece with your other staple clothes to give you maximum wear and therefore value for money. Less is more, and you get what you pay for, cheap is cheap and will only cost you a lot more in the long run. Invest in yourself and your wardrobe and allow Marie Kondo’s joy to be sparked in your life!
